The surface of the Moon

People managed to investigate and to get to know some physical characteristics of the satellite of our planet.

As there is no atmosphere on the Moon, the surface of the Moon gets so much heat during the day that it becomes heated to +120 C and at night and in the shadow it gets cold to -160 C.

The sky on the Moon is always dark and black even in daytime.

The huge disk of the Earth looks 3,67 times bigger then the Moon from the Earth. And the Earth looks like unmoved object. The phases of Earth seen from the Moon are just the contrary to lunar phases.

The surface of the Moon is covered with so called regolith that is the combination of the dust and the trash that appeared from the collision of meteors with the surface of the Moon. The thickness of the regolith may change and varies from meter to tens of meters.

The gravity of the Moon causes different interesting effects. The most famous of them are tides. The gravity is more powerful on the side of the Earth that is turned to the Moon and is less powerful on the side of the Earth that is turned away from the Moon.

One of the most extraordinary and interesting objects of the Universe is well-known satellite of our planet. From ancient times people tried to explore it, investigating its influence on people and nature. People always believed that the Moon is something mysterious and mystical. So, numerous stories and legends tell us about mystical origins of the satellite. The Moon is still unknown object that accompanies our planet.
